Best Review: Casio Slim Line DLP Projector 2000 Lumens, Green (XJ-A230) - PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE REVIEW i put more than an hour into it to give a full run-down of what you're buying and a few tips.I am using this as a home theater on a budget so thats where my views are coming from. screen is roughly 90".SHORT VERSION: I would recommend this (and have). projector must be centered horizontally, NO AUDIO OUT, 20000 hour life, great colors/resolution. 2x zoom and focus lens and vertical keystone correction ceiling mount/rear projection/colors are all adjustable. contrast could be improved and projector runs hot and a little louder than one might like but all in all not much of a problem. Excellent as entry level projector; however, probably less so for all the people with the advanced color adjusters, who MUST HAVE 1080p, and who expect 10G's worth of product for under a grand. Thanks. So let me start by saying I paid $650 for this projector directly from the Abes of Maine website while it was listed at $750 on Amazon from the same company as a featured seller. So I HIGHLY recommend doing at least a google search of this product before purchasing it to see if you could find it cheaper elsewhere. Onto the Review!I will nitpick the cons because no doubt those are the most important thing in a review, in my opinion. and give some ideas to resolve them as well.1. Fan Noise - When using 100% light output this thing is a jet breaking the sound barrier (slightly exaggerated of course). However, on the other brightness settings eco and save (~60% light output and 40%, respectively) this guy falls in line with other home theater projectors I have seen in person. in save i run this 2-3 feet in front of me and forget its there eco isnt all that much different.2. Heat - these bad boys run hot because of the lasers laser light source, however, with the gain of the lumen output that you get over other long lamp life projectors it is definitely worth the hassle. I personally run mine in save mode (40%) and high altitude mode and the heat is manageable, my only worry is if the heat will affect the longevity of the light. That being said this is warranted by casio for 3 years/6000 hours part/labor if you do the warranty, light source included, in your face bulb projectors hoohah! =D3. Inputs - 1 hdmi, 1 wxga, 1 A/V RCA cable adaptor...thingy. NO AUDIO OUT BTW. limited inputs would be a problem for many people with tons of electronics, however when you have a player where "It Only Does Everything" (hope you get the reference) its ok, so I really only use the one hdmi. ps3 can output the video through hdmi and the audio through the RCA cable which works PERFECTLY, although I am unsure if other blu-ray players are capable of this so make sure you know before you purchase.4. Colors/Contrast - I am not picky about colors and contrast (red is red, "maroon" is just darker red, etc) but I have noticed a slight affinity towards blue for this projector which you are able to (at least with my non expert views) resolve, and then BOOM colors are amazing. Contrast could be better...but i have not had any real issues watching any movie. whatsoever. PERIOD.5. Internal Speaker - you know when you put your cell phone on speaker? yah, this is only a slight improvement over that. but no home theater set up would use internal speakers...*scoffs*6. Rainbow effect - I really only notice a rainbow effect when I am sitting close to the screen and even then my eyes have to shift from one side to the other in a very specific way. Rainbow effect is something that I've read only affects a small number of people with DLP projectors and even though i am one, this effect happens in such rare circumstances that is doesnt bother me. People ive had over have NEVER complained about any sort of problems.FINALLY the Pros =) sorry if my review was depressing and wordy up to this point ill keep these short and sweet.2000 lumens - light years (teehee) ahead of other long life projectors for similar prices. even in save (40% light output) i can watch in a lit room with no direct sunlight hitting the screen (artificial light doesnt do too much to the image)Resolution - as long as you're not expecting 1080p resolution from a 720p projector (which is stupid) this picture will be amazing even at large screens.Colors - once you do your tweaking you'll be incredibly happy. all ive done with mine is blue to -20 in theater mode. I use it for games/movies/tv.Settings/menu - All the settings you'll need are there, they're just not as friendly as you would like. ceiling mount/RGB color settings/ rear projection/vertical keystone correction are all there.Controller - uses AAA batteries so it is bigger than you'd expect but i truly HATE those little disk batteries so i see that as a plus. you can control everything from this controller zoom, focus, menu you name it and from almost any position as there is a sensor in both the front and back of the projector.Conclusion/longevity stuff: Although I bashed this guy pretty heavily, I really love my projector and wouldn't trade it for anything else. I have been thinking about purchasing a projector for a long time but didnt want to fork out money for a bulb every year or so. LED projectors eased that fear but almost all are very limited in their features with no zoom and very few other options from what I have seen, this is the best compromise between features and longevity in my opinion and at a great price too. I switch it pretty effortlessly between a home theater setup to projection from a coffee table and both are excellent. I also work it pretty hard running it sometimes for 6-8 hours and sometimes for 2 minutes, which is nice because of this projector's almost instant on/off functions (~3 seconds) in both circumstances. I've had this for less than 2 weeks and have used about 70 hours so yes its still in its baby phase but I plan to use it a lot. Will update if there are any issues or significant changes in the projector even if its years down the road. Ive been using amazon heavily for 3 years and this is only my second review...so that should tell you what I think about this projector. below is a link to another (probably) more professional opinion i used to make my decision hope it helps you too. Muchas Gracias![...]
